Jed arrived in the care of Stokenchurch Dog Rescue after he was thrown over the fence and abandoned one evening. Initially he was very worried which was to be expected after how he had been treated, but with some love and TLC Jed has shown what a wonderful, happy-go-lucky and playful boy he really is.
He has settled into kennels really well and becomes incredibly excited when his carers approach his kennel. Jed suffers from 'happy tail' which basically means he doesn't stop wagging his tail. Unfortunately this has resulted in him making the end of his tail bleed as he hits it on everything around him.
Jed absolutely adores having fuss from people and will push up against you for more attention. He interacts and plays nicely with his handlers, but does have a habit of jumping up when he wants more attention. So he will need to be taught to greet people with all four paws on the floor. He mixes well with other dogs, but maybe a little too over enthusiastic for some calmer dogs, so would be suited to live with dogs of a similar play style.
With regards to training, Jed doesn't appear to know any commands, so owners will need to do all the basic training with him, including recall training. He will need to have access to a good sized garden as Jed loves to participate in zoomies. Having access to a good sized garden will enable Jed to burn off some of his excess energy as he won't be able to go off lead in open areas until he has a solid and reliable recall.
He is incredibly motivated by food and attention, so Jed will pick up basic commands quickly through the use of positive reward based training. In a home with owners who have experience with dogs and an understanding of Sighthounds, Jed will make a truly wonderful addition to an active home.
