Kano has settled in well since his arrival at Stokenchurch and is always happy to greet his handlers when they enter his kennel. Kano loves attention and will sometimes jump up to his handlers for a fuss. He is a big boy so potential new owners may want to work on this behaviour in the home, as he may accidently knock someone over due to his size even though he is calm and sweet about the way he does this.

Kano has already learned a few commands such as sit, down, paw and other paw and is more than capable of learning so much more. He does need a lot of work on his recall as it currently does not exist. Kano is easily motivated during training by rewarding him for the correct behaviour/command with treats and positive praise. He needs to be focused on you with no distractions to get his full attention.

Since his arrival we have mixed Kano with other dogs, but we have found that he does not get on with them so would need to be the only dog in the home. Kano would benefit from attending dog reactivity classes to help him become more accepting when seeing other dogs.

Kano is a lovely boy who likes meeting new people when out on his walks and will happily take treats from these new friends.  He is happy to say his quick hello and carry on doing what he was doing. Kano is a big, strong boy so we have trained him to walk with a halti, which he is happy to accept. Due to his size and strength, Kano will need an owner with large dog experience who will be able to hold Kano when out on his walks.

Kano loves to play with toys when given the chance, but he does tend to run off with the toys during playtime and will only drop them in his own time. To make the playtime more fun it will be a good idea to teach him fetch so that Kano can interact with his new owners more during play. New owners should be aware that Kano should not have any soft/fabric toys, especially when left unattended as he has been known to swallow them.

He would enjoy regular walks and could benefit from extra games during the day. He will make a great addition in the right home with owners who are able to keep him mentally and physically fit.
