Meet Rocco, a beautiful German Shepherd on a quest to find his forever home.  Although Rocco is creating a strong bond with his carers he is finding kennel life a little unsettling. Rocco is searching for patient owners who possess experience in owning German Shepherds and understand the needs of this great breed.

When Rocco first arrived to us and started to meet people here he would react one of two ways depending on the enviornment. In outside areas Rocco would become reactive to strangers at first but it would not take him to much time to become friends. In inside areas, Rocco was a little better meeting people as he wouldn’t react but I do feel this was due to being a bit shut down in a new area. As time has gone on Rocco has come a long way in meeting people, when greeting new people who are going to take him out for a walk he seems a lot happier and no longer reacts, instead he is a lot more excitable/confident, however his manners will need working on as he does tend to jump up. It is a good idea for new owners to keep in mind that he was reactive to begin with as he could revert to this while settling into a new home.

Rocco is a young dog and with that come with bundles of energy.  He will need this energy directed in the right way as at the moment he has very little basic obedience. Extra training will need to include ongoing toilet training, loose lead walking, recall and continued socialisation. GSDs are known to be easy to train, however, it does take a lot of patience and dedication from their owners. If his needs are not met unwanted behaviours will start to occur.

We have mixed Rocco with a few different dogs and have found he can get frustrated on a lead at a close range or behind a fence when greeting dogs. We tried him with a male Husky not much older than him, but the Husky did not seem to like Rocco so there was some tension and growling from both parties (both males are currently entire). He also met an adult female, Spaniel, who although he was friendly, was too overwhelming for her as he does not have any concept of boundaries when playing with other dogs. Rocco is going to need a lot of 1-2-1 training and further training to help him become more neutral when around other dogs.  Due to this we feel it is best that, for now, he is to be the only pet in the home.  In time he could potentially live with another dog.

Overall, Rocco is a lovely boy who loves to play, have cuddles and go for lovely adventures. He will need owners who are willing to put in the work to help him become more well-rounded in the future. He is young and will need someone active that will give Rocco the attention and time he deserves and is willing to give him plenty of mental and physical stimulation.

The adoption fee for Rocco is £275
