Introducing the handsome Shadow, who found himself with us due to no fault of his own. On arrival, Shadow came in with his female friend Coco.  They were originally kennelled together but due to both of them being entire we decided to split them, which hasn’t seemed to worry him at all. Shadow is the more reserved one out of the two so it did take him a little more time to adjust, but has now settled in brilliantly.

Shadow can be a worried boy when it comes to meeting new people, if someone unknown walks into his kennel or walks towards him on a walk he can show some fear reactivity. He is a dog who will choose flight rather than fight, so has never shown any aggression while being with us. The best way to win over Shadow is through giving him some space and not forcing interaction.  He is however a huge lover of food which helps to bribe him a little. Once you have gained Shadows trust you will then be able to see his beautiful personality. He is fun, loves to chase and throw around his toys, also he has been noted to love playing with the garden hose to cool him down in summer. He is affectionate, enjoying sitting on your lap to receive a good scratch. The only thing he can be unsure of is being picked up, he doesn’t show any aggression but may go a little tense.

This little man does have some basic training, but these could be improved to make it more reliable. Training will include, continued socialisation, on-going toilet training, and recall. Shadow is still young, and despite his size still needs a good amount of physical and mental stimulation. He loves going for his walks, but can be a little bit inbetween you feet sometimes, so owners need to take this into consideration as he may accidentally trip you up.

Shadow has lived with another Pomeranian, Coco who was only a couple months younger than himself, they do get on really well but could have a few squabbles over food or toys. When meeting a few of our other resident dogs he has been friendly with all of them, but he is very pushy and rude, due to the fact he likes to try and mount all of them, which a lot of dogs will not tollerate. For now we do feel it is best for Shadow to be the only dog in the home, but owners could do some training to help him become more neutral when in the presence of another dogs. If in the future Shadow has settled down we feel there is a chance another dog could be introduced.

Shadow has also been introduced to our resident cat, Clove, although friendly, he did also try to mount her too, but she did tell him off and moved away which seemed to scare Shadow a little. After this he ignored her for a bit, but then tried again, but got another telling off, so he then stopped. He he could live with a confident cat however, it is recommended owners put some management in place for the cat to get away if wanting to, i.e. high spaces or spare room.

Overall, Shadow is an incredible young man, and will make someone a brilliant companion. Ideally his owners will need to have experience in Pomeranians/similar breeds or dogs who have had some fear behaviour.

The adoption fee for Shadow is £200
