Betty is the definition of a pocket rocket and is always ready to go at a minutes notice. She came in with her sister Roxy and is very similar in temperament. Betty greets all the career with a lot of excitement and enthusiasm but has struggled being in kennels and therefore has developed a lot of pent up energy and general frustration needing more exercise than she can receive here.
Betty is a friendly and sociable girl when meeting people and enjoys a fuss and lots of well needed attention. However once she has established a friendship her manners goes out the window and can be over the top in her greeting. She can be overstimulated easily when fussed making her jump up, mouth and nip in excitement.
Due to Betty being mouthy and nippy she is best suited to older children of 16 and over, but parents MUST take her nippy and mouthy behaviour into consideration before taking her home as they may also may be the ones getting nipped or mouthed, but she should also be going through training to make her find better way to cope when in the home.
Betty ideally needs someone who has had high energy/bull breeds before. She would suit someone who has an active lifestyle and is up for basic training as she is missing a lot of the foundations many dogs of her age would have. Her home will need a garden that is secure and someone to be able to build her home alone time slowly.
When walking off-site she can be quite strong and slightly all over the place. She seems quite stressed walking next to traffic and can be slightly noise sensitive towards anything new e.g. construction work, new area or to something dropping on the ground which can make her startle, freeze or cower. Most of the time she bounces back but other times she needs a minute to adjust or encouragement.
Being a typical Staffy food is very high on her list of motivations and will practically eat anything given with much enthusiasm. She has a great eagerness to learn and please. However can be a bit over the top with her excitement making her impatient but easily motivated however she does have her moments of stubbornness which come with the breed.
Staffordshire Bull Terriers are a lively, active and high energy breed needing at least 2 hours of exercise to keep them happy and fulfilled. Betty does seem to favour exploring more natural, quiet rural walks where she can sniff and plough through long grass. Handling Betty can be a struggle as she doesn’t tend to keep still or relax. She has been getting better with general handling but can still get overstimulated easily to quick exciting movements. She will need owners who are willing to work on her confidence, training and give her the exercise and mental stimulation she so desperately needs.
Betty is a great little dog and will benefit from all sorts of extra activities whether it’s running, cycling, swimming, obedience, scent work or agility.
Betty will require a minimum of two visits from all members of the household ahead of the adoption process.
The adoption fee for Betty is £200
