Buddy arrived in the care of SDR via a pound we work closely with as an unclaimed stray. He arrived with a younger, female Lurcher and they happily share a kennel. They can often be found playing or cuddled up on the bed together.
Not only is Buddy stunning to look at, but he also has bags of personality and is a bit of a goofball at times. He is still a young dog with lots to learn, but he is motivated by food so further training will be easy with the use of some high-value treats. He can be slightly shy when meeting new people, but once offered a tasty treat he soon becomes your friend and will happily trot off on a walk with you.
He could potentially live with another dog pending a couple of successful dog meets here. He can be excitable upon seeing other dogs and this comes across with him barking, but once he’s had the opportunity to say hello, he settles down and interacts nicely with them. He would be better suited to live with a female of a similar size.
As with all dogs, an element of training is required, and Buddy currently doesn’t know any commands. Training will include all the basics, including toilet training and recall training. New owners will need to bear in mind that not all Sighthounds can be off-lead in open spaces due to chase/prey drive, so hiring a secure field would be of huge benefit to Buddy so he can burn off some energy.
We would advise building up Buddy’s home alone time gradually whilst he adjusts to his new home. He may never have had the luxury of home comforts, so it’s important to take things slowly with him while he gets used to everything.
Buddy will make a wonderful companion to a couple or family looking to get out and enjoy the countryside. He is looking for a home with owners who have previously owned a dog with a secure garden with a 6-foot fence.
Buddy will require a minimum of two visits from all members of the household ahead of the adoption process.
The adoption fee for Buddy is £275
