Joining us via the RSPCA, Champ has lived up to his name and won the hearts of everyone at the Rescue. Upon meeting a new person he offers up so much love, alongside a barrage of licks and kisses. In certain scenarios he can become a little over stimulated and he’s not afraid to vocalise. He is a very energetic and bouncy boy and on occasion can also deliver little excited nips! Are you able to reciprocate Champ’s love and offer him a forever home?
Owner experience – Champ can be quite nervous and over stimulated in certain environments and, as such, will need an owner with previous experience who can help him ease into these situations and socialise him effectively.
Personality with people – Champ is quick to say hello and will excitedly jump up, on and all over you! He’s a very friendly dog and backs this up with a tsunami of licks and kisses. Your face will be his preferred target, so do be warned! He loves a cuddle on your lap, but can sometimes actually use you as a stepping stone to a desk / table and upwards! He also vocalises and is not afraid to let you, and anyone within earshot, know how excited he is!
Personality with dogs – He has shown some reactivity and vocalised behind kennel doors and whilst on lead, however, following a number of successful dog mixes this is more likely due to a mix of kennel stress and barrier / lead frustration. When he comes face to face, Champ can be a little over the top but is quick to calm down and then shares the space very amicably. If Champ is going to be joining a household with any existing dogs, we will need to carry out dog mixes to ensure compatibility.
Training & Exercise – Champ will need further and ongoing training. He’s very much a foodie, so further training would keep him engaged and strengthen the bond with his new owner, although be careful as he can sometimes nip your fingers when taking a treat. Likewise, when he’s excited, he can sometimes nip as he bounces happily around you.
On lead he walks quite well, pulling on the odd occasion when a particular smell catches his interest. He generally ignores traffic, but does actually lunge towards cyclists and motorbikes.
Champ appears to have some mountain goat DNA as he loves to scramble up onto chairs, tables and beyond. Accordingly, you should be very cautious about where food is left!
Type of home – Champ would definitely appreciate a secure garden to call his own. Emphasis on secure! Given his climbing ability, it is important to ensure there are no possible stepping stones for him to scale and escape!
The adoption fee for Champ is £250.00
