Crunchie came into the centre back in January after being found as a stray. She was very unsure when she first arrived. It didn’t take her long to learn that she could trust us, but it was clear she hadn’t been socialised and had been through a traumatic time. When Crunchie came to us, she had a very bad ear infection which was causing her a lot of pain and discomfort. Now her ears are healing, and she is learning that the world isn’t as scary as she thought and learning to have fun!

People & Personality – Crunchie is a fun-loving, energetic girl who is eager to please and quick to learn. She loves running around our paddock after toys and doing scent work – sniffing out hidden treats is her favourite activity! Crunchie can be unsure when meeting new people at first and this can cause her to bark and pull towards them. When she is given time to assess and get to know the person slowly, with the help of tasty treats, she will begin to make friends and learn to trust them. Once she knows you, she is very affectionate although she is full-on and can jump up when she’s excited. Crunchie is learning to keep all four paws on the ground when getting attention.

Food – Crunchie loves her food! Which is no surprise being a Labrador! She benefits from slow feeders and food puzzles to help slow her down.

Health - Due to her history of ear infections and itchy skin, Crunchie is on a special diet that will need to be continued in her new home. She is also on daily medication and will need regular ear cleaning to help prevent further ear infections.

Other animals – Crunchie will need to be the only dog in the home. She would benefit from one-to-one attention, particularly for her training, she is likely to be too full-on for a resident dog. However, she would benefit from having dog friends, as she enjoys playing once she gets to know a dog and feels comfortable around them. Crunchie cannot live with cats or other pets as she has a strong prey drive.

Out & About – Crunchie is a very active girl who enjoys her walks. She is worried when passing unfamiliar people on walks. She will need to walk in quieter areas whilst continuing her training and behaviour modification around new people and to prevent stress. She doesn’t react to passing traffic and can be strong on the lead at times particularly if she sees wildlife.

Type of home – Crunchie will need experienced adopters who have owned dogs previously, ideally Labradors or similar. Adopters need to be willing to work with an anxious dog and continue her training and behaviour modification around new people and teach her how to live in a home. She will need to manage carefully around new people in the home and when out and about, helping to build her confidence. Crunchie loves to sniff! She would benefit from lots of exercise, extra activities, and training to keep her mind stimulated.

Her ideal home will be in an out-of-town location, ideally in the countryside with a private garden with 6ft fencing.

Crunchie will require a minimum of four visits from all members of the household ahead of the adoption process.

The adoption fee for Crunchie is £200
