Delightful Daisy could be described as a 13-year-old ‘puppy’ whose playful and friendly character swiftly emerges as she gets to know you!

Daisy joined us through no fault of her own, but simply as a result of her previous owner unfortunately having to downsize. Understandably, given she has had a loving home for the last 12 years, she was initially slightly nervous in kennels. However, having now gained more confidence in her new surroundings she is quick to say hi to new faces and will jump up excitedly.

The more time (and treats) you share with her, the more comfortable and loving she’ll become!

A winning combination of big ears and a lovely smile, alongside her playful and loving personality has made Daisy a firm favourite at SDR. She’d be suitable for a breadth of ages and lifestyles with her ability to curl up and have a nap, or switch into her playful mode for a game of fetch or tug!

Daisy reverts to a puppy when the opportunity to play arises and she’ll often helpfully carry a toy over to instigate a game. She does get quite excited when playing and whilst riled up can subsequently lunge for toys, hands andfingers indiscriminately so just a word of caution there! This applies to fetch as well, whilst she’s great at bringing the ball back, if you don’t throw it again quickly enough, she will sometimes look to take matters into her own hands!

In her previous home Daisy enjoyed easy access to a garden where she could ‘come and go’ at will. Ideally her future home would be able to replicate this.

Daisy walks well on lead, pausing occasionally for the odd sniff. Her previous owner did mention that she has a dislike of runners and cyclists and will bark at them accordingly. She ignores traffic overall, aside from any particularly large or loud vehicles that she tends to shy away from. It was also mentioned that she is afraid of thunder and fireworks.

Having done a couple of dog mixes since Daisy came into the rescue we did see some reactivity, particularly to some of the more energetic and bouncy dogs. Having said this, we do believe with the right dog, along the lines of a more mature calmer housemate, there is the possibility that Daisy could live with another dog. Of course, pending successful dog mixes.

Daisy would be able to live with children, particularly as her ability to switch from a sleepy 13-year-old dog to a playful puppy would work well for both parties! However, any children playing with her would need to be cautioned of her potential to snap as part of play! As such we are suggesting any children in the home should be 8 years plus to ensure they are old enough to understand the slight risks involved with any games!

Daisy is house trained and able to obey a number of commands including sit and paw. Her recall is good, albeit slightly impacted by her hearing starting to go, a sign of her advanced age that her playfulness will constantly cause you to forget!

Overall, Daisy is an absolutely delightful lady and still very much young at heart. If you’re after a playful companion who is equally comfortable curling up for a nap, then Daisy could be perfect for you!
