Gentle Ginny an affectionate senior hound with a big voice and an even bigger heart. True to her hound nature, she loves to express herself, especially when meeting new people or during walks. Despite her chatty personality, she is easy going and well-mannered, enjoying a relaxed lifestyle. Most of her time is spent lounging and watching the world go by.
Born in France, she spent most of her life on a farm before making the journey here. Despite the huge change in her life, she has adapted well to kennel life. She settled in quickly, showing a close bond with her Jack Russell friends, whom she loves to snuggle with. Like many hounds, she has an independent streak and can be stubborn when she doesn’t feel like moving.
Owner Experience: She would thrive with owners experienced with hounds who understand her and their quirks, letting her enjoy life at her own pace.
Personality with People: Ginny adores people and is very popular at the rescue. While she may greet visitors with her signature deep howl, she quickly settles and enjoys a fuss. She is polite, never jumps up, and loves leaning into people for attention or squeezing between their legs for a good scratch. In quieter moments, she’s perfectly content curled up on the sofa or lying at your feet, soaking up the company.
Personality with Dogs: She arrived at the rescue with three Jack Russell companions. She has shown excellent social skills within her little pack, and they all seem to know their place. However, introductions with new dogs can be awkward and defensive, especially towards larger or excitable dogs. However, she has been fine walking with other calm, well-mannered companions with a quick sniff here and there and nothing more.
Training & Exercise: True to her Hound nature, Ginny is independent and a bit stubborn. On walks, she likes to take her time sniffing everything, occasionally stopping to insist on going a different way. She walks fairly well, staying ahead but not pulling too much, though she could be strong if she wanted to be. Her recall is practically non existent —she doesn’t reliably respond to her name, a whistle, or even loud calls, even in low-distraction environments and will come to you when she is ready.
Home Alone Time: Minimal home alone time to start with as she can become vocal when left alone.
Type of Home Required: Ginny’s perfect home would be rural, as she originally lived on a farm. She would not suit a home where noise-sensitive neighbours might be bothered by her hound vocals. She used to have visiting grandchildren but hasn't lived with them, so she would do best in a home with older children.
Number of visits required by potential adopters: A minimum of two visits before proceeding with the adoption.
The adoption fee for Ginny is £160
