Meet Jimmy, who came into our care at SDR due to change of circumstances with his previous owners. Since Jimmy has arrived here, he has settled in well and has got into the swing of his new routine straight away. All staff members here at the centre have got a real soft spot for Jimmy. It’s just something about him that makes us smile even if it’s just his little Woo Woos when he’s talking to us.

Walking and Traffic:  Jimmy loves to go out on his walkies.  When out walking, Jimmy does pull a little, however, after 5 minutes he calms down and being a typical beagle, he does love to get his nose down to the ground to see what sent he can get and of course if any food is laying around. Jimmy does not like big vehicles and cyclists going past him, when this happens, he will bark at them.  As soon as they have gone past, he has his nose back to the ground and carry’s on with his walk.  Jimmy likes to be vocal when out, just to let everyone know he is around and him just being a beagle.

Food and Medical: Jimmy loves his food, but he does come with some allergies. His previous owners found that the best food for him for his allergies is Royal Canin An Allergenic Adult dry food with nothing else served with it, this has helped him a lot.  He will also need to be kept up to date with his cytopint treatment (it’s an injection) to help with his allergies once a month.  Through the winter this could possibly be every two months.

Owner Experience:  Jimmy is looking for his new family to have some experience with dogs or have had one or two beagles in their time.  He loves meeting new people and when out walking he barks to say hello.  Once he has said hello, all is good in the world.  Jimmy is looking for his new family to keep up with his medical needs and to keep him on his special nutritional requirement.  He used to live with young children in his previous home so we feel that Jimmy will be good to live with children aged 5 years and over.  When playing with him everyone will need to be careful near his ears as he does not like them being pulled around.  Jimmy does love going out for his walks so his new owners will need be able to take him out for 1-2 hours a day.  After his walks he loves to sit on the sofa for fusses and cuddles.

Other Dogs and Cats:  Jimmy gets on well with other dogs and at the moment he currently has a kennel buddy to help build her confidence.  He could live with another dog that has a calm nature and be respectable and listen to each other.  When it comes to mealtimes it is best for the dogs to be fed separately.  He could possibly live with a confident cat that has been around dogs before.  The cat will need to have their own space and a high place to get away from Jimmy if needs be.

Home Alone Time: Jimmys home alone time will need to be built up slowly so he can get used to his new family’s routine.

Number of visits required by potential adopters:  Jimmy will require two visits from everyone in the household and if going to live with another dog we will need to do multiple dog mixes here at the centre.

The adoption fee for Jimmy is: £250.00
