Meet two little brothers, Lucky (Blue collar) and Irwin (Red collar). During their first few days at SDR, the brothers took some time to adjust to their new routine. However, with a little reassurance and patience, Lucky and Irwin eventually came out of their shells and are now eager to find their forever homes.
Meeting people & Dogs - When it comes to meeting new people, the two little brothers can be quite vocal at first, as many smaller dogs tend to be. However, if you ignore them and allow them to do their own thing, they will eventually come around. Lucky, the smaller one, is the more confident of the two, while Irwin is a bit more hesitant when it comes to new experiences, like meeting new people and dogs. Irwin just needs a little more time to get to know strangers, so it’s important for him to go at his own pace. Here at SDR, we have conducted several dog meets with various other dogs, and both Lucky and Irwin get along well with them. Again, Irwin is a bit more cautious when meeting dogs, unlike his brother Lucky, who approaches new dog friends without fear and enjoys getting up close and personal. Lucky is the more playful of the two, but he doesn't quite know how to play. We believe that Lucky and Irwin could possibly live with another calmer, well-socialised dog, if new owners are prepared to manage situations during feeding times and to ensure both dogs have their own space when needed. Lucky and Irwin have also met our resident cat, Clove. Both boys were initially interested, but after a quick sniff, they lost interest in her. We feel that they could also live with a confident cat, provided the cat has its own space and can escape from the dogs if necessary.
Walking & Training - When it's time for their walks, the boys can be very vocal while getting ready and coming out of the kennels, as they are excited to be out and about. After a few minutes, they do calm down. New owners should be aware that both boys like to scent mark everywhere they go, both inside and outside. Lucky and Irwin walk well on a lead, but they can become a bit of a trip hazard if something interesting comes along, like a new smell. The boys are not fazed by traffic; however, when they see another dog while walking—often instigated by Lucky—they can get quite vocal. If a bigger dog starts barking back, both boys usually stop barking quickly. In terms of training, Lucky and Irwin don’t know many commands; they occasionally respond to "sit." New owners will need to work on their basic commands, such as toilet training, recall, and socialising.
Type of home - Lucky and Irwin are looking for new owners who have experience with dogs and won't be bothered by the barking that both boys do. It would be ideal if their new family has a nice-sized garden with secure 4-foot fencing, allowing them to run around and play.
The adoption fee for Lucky & Irwin is £400.00
