Introducing Luna, who is patiently waiting for an experienced home with people who understand resource guarding behaviour to give her the help she needs.
Luna does initially show fear aggression towards unknown people but over time, once trust has been established, she transforms into a comical and affectionate lady. Luna is highly motivated by toys and treats so this will help build a bond and give her motivation for further training.
Luna is a very active girl, needing an owner who can provide her with lots of physical and mental stimulation as she is full of beans and is not going to want to be sitting on your lap watching tv all day. Luna likes to be out and about playing with her toys, being the pocket size bulldozer she can be. She is going to need owners to provide a lot of on-going management and further training as she does display resource guarding behaviour. She will need owners who have a good understanding of this and are able to manage this behaviour effectively. Another thing owners will also need to work is teaching her to settle as she can struggle with this at times. We have found having a crate in her kennel has helped with this and she sees it as safe area which will be great for when visitors come round. Luna is also looking for a stronger bodied person as despite her small stature is strong on lead.
As stated above Luna is motivated by treats, so hand feeding her will be good for training purposes, however, if she is eating a meal or chews, it is very advisable to keep her separate in a safe area, i.e. a crate or spare room as she will resource guard these.
We have introduced Luna to a few different dogs while being with us, with most dogs she can be reactive behind a fence, and she can also be reactive on lead if they are close by. We have found a good distraction technique is to use a tennis ball when in situations where she does become reactive. What we have found is Luna does better with much larger dogs than her; she doesn’t seem to mind one of our other residents Eddie and has been on a walk with him but keeping a safe distance. Luna will be better placed in a home with no other pets. We feel she will benefit from going to training classes to help her become more neutral to other dogs.
Luna could potentially be left for a few hours at a time providing it is built up slowly while adjust to a new home.
We understand if you are reading through this description of Luna there is a lot to consider and take in, but we know that when she is placed in the right home with people who are going to put in the time and dedication, that they will start seeing the side of Luna that we see, who is so full of character, fun and affection. If you feel you have the experience and up for a challenge then please consider this beautiful young lady as she deserves a chance.
The adoption fee for Luna is £200
