Giving dogs a second chance
Meet gentle natured Mae.

Mae is a gentle soul with a heart full of love, just waiting for the right person to help her feel safe in the world again. She came to us as a stray with no known history, but since arriving, she has only shown us just how special she is.
True to her breed, She is sensitive, affectionate, and enjoys the company of people she trusts. It takes her a little time to feel comfortable, especially with new faces or in unfamiliar environments, but once she knows you, her sweet and loving nature shines through. She’ll happily curl up on your lap for cuddles after a good typical sighthound run around.
Personality - Mae can be a worried girl which can be seen more when indoors or in busy environments and when being introduced to someone new. When in the office or staff room she will often be found hiding under a table or your legs when someone unfamiliar enters. If people act calm and ignore her she will feel brave enough to emerge. To help Mae feel comfortable, it’s best to meet her outdoors, such as in the paddock. As she feels more confident here and shows her best side. Given her shy nature, establishing a strong bond is essential for her before heading off to her new home and life, so we will need her new family to meet her a few times before heading off.
Exercise - Outside in the paddock or on a walk, she shows more confidence, going out with a prance in her step as she makes her way offsite, walking beautifully on the lead. Offsite, Mae seems to cope well with traffic and the busy sounds, showing she has the potential to be a brilliant walking companion.
She gets along well with other dogs, especially those with a similar play style to her and could definitely live with other sighthounds of similar size or bigger that like to run and chase. Mae has a playful side but is always well-mannered – she also loves soft toys and chasing a ball, though some toys can still spook her if introduced too quickly.
Type of Home - Due to her timid nature, Mae would be best suited to a calm, quiet home with adults or older teens who understand how to give her space and let her come around at her own pace. She can cry when initially left here but does seem to settle after. She will need her leaving hours gradually built-up.
The ideal owners would be ones with some prior dog experience, ideally with timid or sensitive dogs. She would thrive in a calm, patient household that can support her confidence-building journey.
Whilst she may not have had the easiest start in life, with the right home—one that can offer her consistency, kindness, and time she’ll blossom into a very loving companion. If you’re looking for a gentle Whippet friend who will steal your heart and stay loyally by your side, Mae could be the one for you.
The adoption fee for Mae is £250.00
