Mocha is a big, laid-back Malamute. He came to us as a stray and after spending his hold time at the pound unclaimed, he’s now back with us looking for his forever home with new owners who understand the Malamute personality - loyal, independent, and a bit stubborn at times. He’s settled in well here and spends most of his day relaxing in his kennel, either stretched out on the floor or relaxing on his bed. He’s pretty unfazed by most things whether it’s his noisy neighbours or traffic.

Personality –Overall he is easygoing when it comes to getting his harness or collar on, and he did great at the vet, letting them do all their checks without any fuss. When having a bath, brushing and even a blow-dry, he might fidget a little, but on the whole was fine throughout. He’s happy to get some attention and fuss but also likes his space and independence especially when he’s lounging on his bed.   He is not a big player but does like some toys such as a tennis ball, occasionally chasing one but for the most part will lie down and chew it. Occasionally he will become obsessed with random toys, carrying them everywhere, even to his bowl to eat. He also loves his treats especially sprats and is pretty food-motivated.  It’s worth noting that Mocha can show subtle signs of possessiveness when he’s eating, has a chew, or resting on his bed. He’s generally okay with someone approaching to add a treat and moving away or moving around nearby, but he may appear uneasy if touched during these times where he will tense up and look uncomfortable. Mocha would do best with someone who understands and respects his boundaries, paying attention to his body language, especially around food and favourite items. Although he doesn’t actively guard, it’s something new owners should keep in mind to help him feel secure and respected.

Training/Exercise - When on lead offsite he is a good walker, only pulling a little here and there. Off-leash in the paddock, he likes a good run but then mostly just wanders around, happy to come back when it’s time to head in. He is on a light diet and joint supplements, we have all noticed a big difference in him since starting these, being more playful, active and bouncy.

Other Animals - Around the site, Mocha doesn't seem the slightest bit bothered seeing other dogs and is quite neutral. He is happy to walk with others on lead as long as they’re calm and respectful, but he isn’t suited to living with another dog.  While he doesn’t mind friendly dogs, he isn’t a fan of overly enthusiastic greetings, especially if they get right up in his face. Regardless of the other dog’s energy level, Mocha prefers his space especially around his face during introductions and appreciates a gentle walk together. In his new home he’s best suited to walking partners who match his calm demeanour and won’t overwhelm him with high-energy behaviour. He also seems to prefer the ladies over other male dogs.

All in all, Mocha’s a calm, confident dog and a perfect mix of affectionate and independent. He would do best in a calm adult household with an experienced owner who understands larger breeds like Malamutes or breeds of a similar temperament. Being a very relaxed dog in kennels, he hasn’t shown any signs of distress while being with us, mostly snoozing or resting so could be left up to 4 hours in his new home once settled in.

Mocha will require a minimum of 3 visits from everyone in the household before adoption.

The adoption fee for Mocha is £250.00
