Ruby is a sweet-natured, gentle girl who arrived as an unclaimed stray from a pound we work with. She arrived a little underweight and has a couple of scars on her body, but despite this, she is a happy and friendly girl who is always pleased to see her carers.
She is looking for a new home with owners who have researched Sighthounds and have a good understanding of their traits and characteristics. Owners will need to train a solid and reliable recall to Ruby before contemplating letting her off lead - owners will also need to bear in mind that not all Sighthounds can go off lead in open spaces, so they may need to hire an enclosed field to allow her to run free.
When meeting new people Ruby is gentle and polite. She might be a little shy initially but soon comes around once a tasty treat has been offered and you go for a walk. If living with children, we recommend they are aged 12 and over. Ruby would not be comfortable around children who make lots of noise.
Ruby hasn't had any previous training, so new owners will need to start from scratch with her; this will include all the basic training such as toilet training, sit, wait, recall etc. It may be beneficial to enrol Ruby into training classes to enable her to engage with her handler with distractions around.
As Ruby was a stray, we have no previous history of what she is like in a home environment. She does cry and bark when alone in her kennel; this is worse during feeding/cleaning time as she knows her handler is around and would prefer to be with them. Once alone, she does settle in her kennel, but we would advise home alone time is built up gradually, so she doesn't become stressed or anxious.
Ruby has mixed well with other dogs but doesn't overly engage with dogs that want to play all the time or are boisterous. If she were to live with another dog, we would recommend a dog of a similar size that has the same calm, laid-back attitude. We wouldn't place Ruby in a home with cats or other small furries.
In a quiet home with a secure garden (6ft fence) with owners who are willing and eager to put the time into training a dog, Ruby will make a wonderful companion.
Ruby will require a minimum of two visits from all members of the household ahead of the adoption process.
The adoption fee for Ruby is £200
