ABOUT SABLE
Meet the lovable and energetic Sable! At around 8 months old, she was found as a stray and is still adjusting to kennel life. Sable has plenty of energy and is looking for active owners who enjoy agility and scent work. After a busy day, she loves nothing more than snuggling on the sofa for some quality time.
Owners Experience - Sable is looking for new owners who have previously owned shepherds, as they will understand what it means to care for a young, high-energy dog. Sable has shown some reactivity towards other dogs, so her new owners will need to be prepared to manage and work on her behaviour in this area.
Exercise and training - Since Sable has been with us at the rescue, we have tried to determine what commands she might know, such as "sit" and "down." We found that Sable only reliably knows how to sit, and even that lasts for only a few seconds. Therefore, her new owners will need to be willing to put in a lot of effort into her training, starting with toilet training, learning to walk nicely on a lead, as well as commands like "stay" and "recall." Sable is looking for an active family that can provide her with both physical activity and mental stimulation.
Other Animals & Walking - We have done a few dog mixes with Sable and found that she is quite reactive, showing aggression towards other dogs. Therefore, Sable needs to be the only dog in the household, and new owners should not have any other pets, as she has displayed some prey drive towards cats and small fluffy dogs.
When taking Sable off-site for a walk, she is quite strong and tends to pull on the leash. Occasionally, she will slow down if she catches a strong scent of something. In situations with traffic, Sable generally ignores it, but she becomes anxious around loud vehicles, such as large trucks or cars. While she has shown interest in cyclists, she hasn't actively reacted towards them yet, I can see her lunging towards cyclists in the future if further training isn’t put into place.
Meeting new people - When it comes to meeting new people, Sable can be somewhat of a whirlwind. However, once she calms down for a moment, she absolutely loves to lean in for some affection, especially if you know the right spot. Sable can live with children aged 14 years and over, as long as they are dog-savvy and accustomed to large, bouncy dogs. Type of home - Sable will thrive in a spacious garden with secure 6ft fencing, and her new owners should be present most of the time. Sable requires a minimum of three visits from everyone in the household.
The adoption fee for Sable is £300.00
