Meet the very, very cute Scrappy, as everyone keeps telling him! He landed with us after his previous owner reached out for help, realising she could no longer provide the care he deserved. With multiple dogs in the home and limited resources, she made the difficult decision to surrender Scrappy and his companion, Champ, in the hope they’d have a better future elsewhere.
Meeting new people and Dogs - When meeting new people, he can be a little nervous and timid, particularly around men or behind the kennel door. Sometimes there’s no hesitation, but he’s always at his best when there’s no pressure to meet. Once comfortable, he becomes incredibly affectionate, often climbing into your lap, flipping onto his back, and asking for chest rubs and cuddles. He’s especially motivated by food, which makes him both eager to learn and easy to bond with. Although Scrappy and Champ arrived together, tensions arose, particularly around food, which had been a limited resource in their previous home. They were eventually separated to give each dog space to feel more relaxed and settled, but able to exercise together with minimal issues. Scrappy won’t be able to live with other dogs, but he has happily made friends and walking buddies here with some management around resources.
Walking on lead & Exercise - Out on walks, Scrappy really shines. He walks nicely on lead and has shown promising recall potential off-lead in the paddocks, where his playful, curious side comes to life. He’s a bit of a forager, loves tennis balls, rolls in all things smelly, and has even shown a natural talent for the agility equipment like a true professional.
Other -Scrappy may take time to adjust to new environments, particularly indoors, where he can sometimes become a little restless or unsure, and may howl when left alone. He’s clean in his kennel, enjoys enrichment such as puzzles and KONGs, and has shown good manners during vet visits and grooming despite his limited prior experience.
Owner Experience - Scrappy is looking for a calm, adult-only or older-teen home with people who understand dog body language and are happy to respect his sensitivities, as he hasn’t had the best start to life. He would thrive with someone who enjoys outdoor adventures and is committed to helping him grow in confidence.
The adoption fee for Scrappy is £250.00
