The beautiful Shyla has shy in her name for a reason, as initially she does tend to be very nervous around new people. However, once you spend time together you end up with a very loving, excitable and playful companion by your side. You will become the centre of her world which, whilst very much a positive, could come with some potential challenges as her previous owner highlighted whining and barking when Shyla was left home alone.

Owner experience – Someone with previous dog ownership experience would be of benefit for Shyla, she is a lovely girl but is quite strong and can be nervous in certain scenarios.

Personality with people – Initially very wary, Shyla quickly becomes an absolute delight once she gets comfortable around you and before long she’ll be throwing toys at you in the hope of instigating play. For your first meeting it is important to approach her calmly and ideally get down to her level. As her new owner you will need to become her ‘safe space’ for any future new person introductions. Her former owner mentioned that Shyla loves to cuddle up with you on the sofa or bed, we have only seen glimpses of this behaviour as unfortunately she does seem to be struggling in kennels currently.

Personality with dogs – At first Shyla is excited and pulls towards the other dog. She does tend to come over quite pushy and there are some dogs out there that would see her approach as threatening, consequently it is important to be cautious when introducing her to new dogs. Once the initial butt sniffs are out the way she tends to share the space quite amicably and will sometimes offer up play bows in the hope of play.

Training & Exercise – On lead Shyla does tend to pull and, as a mix of two scent focussed breeds, she will often lunge towards a tempting smell and drag you along with her! Consequently, a word of warning for anyone with mobility issues as she is strong for her size! Off lead she excitedly explores the space whilst regularly checking in with you, before her curiosity dissolves into zoomies and she joyfully runs circles around you. Shyla also has a delightful habit of choosing a favourite toy and, with honed practice and a skilled flick of the head, throwing it straight to you, to initiate play! She LOVES fetch and will happily play for hours; her recall is OK but would benefit from some training.

Home alone time – 1 – 4 hours.

Type of home required – As mentioned Shyla loves playing fetch so a large, enclosed garden would be brilliant to offer her a safe space to play.

The adoption fee for Shyla is £250.00
