ABOUT OCEAN
Hi! I'm Ocean. In March 2025, I was found by a member of the public and taken to SDR in very bad shape. I was emaciated, had infected wounds, and suffered from hypothermia. Thanks to the care I received at Crossroads Veterinary Centre, as well as the ongoing love and support from the team at SDR, I have made a full recovery. Now, my carer says I'm ready to find my forever home!
Meeting new people and Dogs - When it comes to meeting new people, my carer says I show signs of fear and uncertainty, which can result in reactive behaviour such as barking and lunging. This typically happens when someone stands and stares or tries to approach me. There have been a few occasions where I haven't reacted to people, and this usually occurs when I am being ignored. My carer advises that the best way for me to meet new people is for them to be slow, allowing me to set the pace, and for them to avoid direct interaction, such as touching or reaching out to me. My new owners will need to be very patient and take things one step at a time. When meeting other dogs, I can also be somewhat reactive. I particularly dislike direct eye contact or face-to-face interactions when meeting new people and dogs. My carer is working on muzzle training with me, and it's important that I am the only pet in the home.
Walking on lead & Exercise - My carer describes me as a little pocket rocket when we go for walks! I tend to pull at first because I love to sniff everything, especially if I catch a whiff of something interesting. I do have a bit of a prey drive, but I handle traffic well. Loud sounds can make me wary, as I’m a bit sound sensitive. I’m an active girl who enjoys walks and new adventures, and I love playing tug! My new owners should be active, as I might excel in dog sports like lure coursing or agility. Sometimes, when I get overly excited, I can be a bit mouthy, but my carers are working on this, so my new owners should be aware.
Owner Experience - I haven’t had the best start in life, and I am showing some reactivity. My new owners will need to be able and willing to invest a lot of time, patience, and effort into my training. It won’t be easy, but nothing worthwhile is. However, I can promise that I will make a wonderful addition to my new family. I will need to live in an adult-only household with very few visitors. It would be great if my new owners were home most of the time and had a nice-sized garden to call my own, with secure 6-foot fencing.
The adoption fee for Ocean is £250.00
