Zestful Ziggy came to SDR due to no fault of his own, unfortunately, someone in the household became terminally ill, which then meant they could no longer give him the time he required. Ziggy was rehomed but returned as his guarding behaviour became more prevalent.

Ziggy is a boy who loves nothing more than going on adventures and playing with tennis balls. However, he does become uncomfortable when being overhandled and he does like his space. He is okay when meeting new people but again does not really like it when they reach out and may pull away, he prefers to go straight for a walk. There are odd occasions when he will decide to sit on someone’s lap but for the most part likes to be left alone, especially when resting.

He knows a lot of the basic commands and walks beautifully on the lead, engaging with his handler.  He is an active dog and would like someone who can keep him mentally and physically stimulated. His resource guarding issues tend to happen in the home, this includes taking things that do not belong to him. This is something that will require ongoing management and further training from someone who has experienced these issues before.  New owners must be prepared to follow the advice and guidance from SDR and ensure that proper management is in place prior to Ziggy going home.  Ziggy is a wonderful dog and has many excellent qualities but owners should not become complacent as his resource guarding tendencies will always be there.

We have mixed Ziggy with many dogs here and overall, he has done well, he is normally well-mannered during the first meet and greet, and at times he may engage in play but if the other dog does not want to, he is happy to respect that and do his own thing. Due to the guarding behaviour, he does need to be the only pet in the home, but he will be happy to walk with another dog.

Ziggy is looking for people who have knowledge of resource guarding and have experienced it before.

Overall, he is a good boy who needs experienced and understanding owners who are willing to put management plans in and do extra training.

Ziggy will require a minimum of 4 visits from everyone in the household ahead of the adoption process.

The adoption fee for Ziggy is £250.00
