Notice from The Board - Regarding CIO

It has come to our attention that a recent formal notification (which is a formal/legal requirement of the Charity Commission) may have caused some confusion. We would like to reassure you that Stokenchurch Dog Rescue has not changed and is NOT closing. 

Stokenchurch Dog Rescue registered charity number 274589 is still very much an active charity and still relies on members' and donors' generous support.  It remains unchanged and continues its mission of rescuing and rehoming unwanted dogs, a commitment the charity has upheld for over 60 years.

It is the entirely separate charity Stokenchurch Dog Rescue CIO registered charity number 1188690 that is the subject of a recent closure notice.

Further explanation as why we had to send letters out in regards to the closure of Stokenchurch Dog Rescue CIO registered charity number 1188690 now follows -

In the context of charities, CIO stands for Charitable Incorporated Organisation. This is one type of specific legal structure designed for charitable organisations in England and Wales. The CIO structure provides the benefits of incorporation. There can also be unincorporated charities and this is the category for Stokenchurch Dog Rescue, registered charity number 274589.

The establishment of an entirely new and separate charity called Stokenchurch Dog Rescue CIO registered under charity number 1188690, was initiated a while ago. However, before completing the full establishment of this new CIO charity, and in light of new information, the trustees reconsidered this action and elected not to continue with the creation of the new charity Stokenchurch Dog Rescue CIO registered charity number 1188690. The steps required to close the CIO have been underway for sometime and have been referenced both in recent Reports and Accounts and the Annual General Meeting.

In line with the requirements of the Charity Commission, certain actions are necessary to formally close Stokenchurch Dog Rescue CIO registered charity number 1188690. This included sending the earlier letter dated 12th September inviting members to our 2024 Annual General Meeting, which contained details about the resolution to close Stokenchurch Dog Rescue CIO. It also included sending the obligatory formal notice to members regarding the closure application dated 3rd December.

We thank our members, sponsors, donors and volunteers for continuing to support our work and rest assured Stokenchurch Dog Rescue registered charity number 274589 has not changed, it is still very busy and committed to providing care for the many unwanted dogs it rehomes.'
