Join our Board of Trustees as Secretary - voluntary role

As Secretary to the Board of Trustees, you will have the opportunity to contribute your skills, time, and attention to a cause that truly matters — making a real difference to the unwanted and abandoned dogs who rely on us to find them a better future.

In helping the trustees maintain the charity’s governance and compliance, you will be responsible for:

  • Preparing and circulating agendas, minutes, action points and board papers in consultation with the Chair
  • Taking accurate minutes at Board meetings to capture key discussions and decisions
  • Working with the Chair to finalise draft minutes before formal approval
  • Maintaining reliable records and ensuring timely regulatory filings
  • Supporting the Chair in organising meetings and communications
  • Working closely with the trustees to ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations

We welcome applications from individuals who have:

  • Experience in administration, governance, or secretarial duties
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A commitment to our values and charitable objectives
  • Willingness to devote time and energy to board responsibilities
  • A commitment to confidentiality, integrity, and professional conduct
  • Availability to attend monthly evening Board meetings, the AGM, and other occasional ad-hoc meetings.
  • A genuine passion for animal welfare and a belief that every dog deserves a second chance

We would welcome someone as a trustee but it is optional for this role.

If you wish to also be a trustee please note:

Trustees are appointed by the Board and elected by the charity’s members. As a member of the Board you’ll help guide SDR’s strategy, ensure it remains solvent and well-run, and upholds its mission and objectives. This includes accepting the legal responsibilities of trusteeship.

Trustees also contribute to projects and fundraising efforts alongside staff and volunteers, and you should be able to visit the site when needed.

To apply - please send a CV and cover letter to lesley@stokenchurchdogrescue.org.uk explaining why you are interested and how your skills and experience could help us. Would you kindly include the details of two referees. They will not be contacted without your permission.
