Peggy is a sweet and lively girl who came into our care through a pound we work closely with. She is always happy to greet her carers when they come into her kennel and she will sometimes bring them one of her toys for a game of fetch. As she can be a little unsure in new places, new owners may want to build up home alone time gradually as she gets settled into her new home.
Peggy adores her toys and would love nothing more than an endless game of fetch. She will chase any toy that is thrown for her but she especially enjoys her squeaky kong jumbler. A second toy may be needed in exchange for the one she has, as she doesn’t always remember that she has to drop the toy for you to be able to throw it again.
At present Peggy only seems to know the command 'sit'. She is very motivated by high value treats and will work well for them. New owners may enjoy teaching Peggy new commands once she is settled in her new home. She doesn't seem to have had much training on the lead and can be very strong and will sometimes try to herd her walker. She is a very intelligent girl and she will benefit from attending training classes with her new owners.
Peggy has been mixed with a few other dogs since she has been with us. It seems that she has not been well socialised with other dogs previously and she can become quite overwhelmed and frustrated when she sees another dog. She will bark at them when she first sees them, but if given time to calm down, she is able to walk nicely with another dog in the area. However, if she is allowed to greet, she does not like to other dog to get into her space and will snap at them.
In the right home with active owners who have owned German Shepherds in the past, Peggy will make a truly wonderful, active and loving companion.
Can you offer this lovely girl a loving and permanent new home?
